Having become an old married woman within the past few days (definition of an old married woman: married more than a month), it came to my mind that there are a few (and I mean a very few) people, namely family members, who are wondering how in the world married life is going for Preston and I. They have good reason to wonder this, because as I'm about to illustrate, it's been very interesting! The place where I reside is no longer full of flowers and sunshine - oh no. It's filled with knives and swords from the Lord of the Rings era, as well as video game figurines and mismatched socks. Anyone who knows my husband knows that these items are an intrinsic part of his life, and in no way could he part with them. Luckily, we live in a 2 bedroom house, and the second bedroom has been taken over by his things. Otherwise, I have a say as to what can and cannot be displayed in view of the general public. For instance, the wrestling mask from Nacho Libre stays in his "office." Let me elucidate with some pictures...
Let's notice that in this picture alone there is a knife, video game figurine set, the aforementioned mask, and the corner of the flag of the Philippines. Not to mention the mask from his recently-attended Blink-182 concert. I really only come in here to use the computer... Now, let's talk about the actual video gaming world that he is trying to introduce me to. Firstly, he is on this website called www.kotaku.com which is basically a blog about everything video games. Literally everything. Those of us who did not grow up with them didn't even have an idea the website existed. I was one of "those." I am, however, VERY aware of it's existence now, and appreciate the constant updates on video games that are coming out soon, i.e., Skyrim, Call of Duty Modern Warfare III, oh, and of course, the new Xbox 360 in the Modern Warfare Bundle. Thank goodness for this website, or we'd never know anything. (Please sense the sarcasm, please!) For now, we live with a recently-inherited Nintendo Wii from my mother-in-law, Julie. Which is a good thing or I'd never have gotten to know Zelda: Ocarina of Time!
There it is. The entertainment center of newlyweds. And we really do love it. Be sure to notice the Master Chief carving. In reality, the Wii has provided hours of entertainment and we are so grateful for it.
Truly, marriage is a whole different breed of awesome. People ask us how it is all the time, and we usually answer something like this: "It's the greatest thing in the entire world. No exaggeration." And it is. You live with your best friend. You get to cuddle far into the night (a thing previously prohibited), and this is the best part: Whatever problems or challenges you encounter as newlyweds (i.e., money. Yeah. Mostly money), you have someone else to rely on and help you through those challenges. You're never alone when you're trying to face the world. And that is a beautiful thing.
First one here! yayahhhh.
ReplyDeleteCome on Beck...you don't want to proudly display video game figurines (they're not dolls...) and nacho libre masks in your home? You're crazy, girl! Ha ha ha...Paul has an insane love of garden gnomes. I still down know why, but that's why he too has an office.
Woot woot! Welcome to the blogging world!
